“Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.”
Through your early experiences you developed a set of expectations about your world and the people around you that affects the way you act and feel. Sometimes these patterns of behaviour or feelings can create problems.
Therapy is a chance to explore these patterns by exploring both your past and current relationships, and the thoughts and feelings that emerge for you as you do. As a way to gain insight you will also explore feelings about the therapy and the therapist, and patterns that emerge and are played out in the therapy.
Maria’s approach is patient led, this means that the session is started by the patient rather than by the therapist asking questions. In the case of children the therapy is led by the child through play.
When working with children Maria works closely with the parents to give feedback, and work through the material the child brings into the therapy.
Meetings are usually at least weekly.
