“…how hard it must be to live only with what one knows and what one remembers,
cut off from what one hopes for!” ― Albert Camus, The Plague
Our expectations, hopes, and fears find expression in the relationship.
For couples experiencing difficulties the fear of admitting that things are not working as they hoped for can be paralysing, and they can get stuck in unsatisfying patterns of behaviour.
Couple therapy helps the couple go back to basics, and get back in touch with those hopes and fears, and understand their unspoken expectations. Maria’s approach to therapy is patient led, which means that the couple starts the session and the therapist follows, and helps the couple make sense of their struggle in the context of their history and present.
Meetings are usually held weekly and couples are always seen together, meaning that both partners need to be in the same physical space during the session.
